Susan Carter Mulherin

I graduated from Westside High School in Augusta and received my undergraduate degree from Auburn University (B.A.).  I returned to college and received my nursing degree from the University of South Carolina-Aiken.  After practicing as a nurse, I was employed as a legal nurse consultant at Nelson Mullins in Columbia, S.C.  I later returned to school, this time to obtain my law degree from the University of Richmond (J.D., cum laude).  While attending law school, I received awards in the areas of Constitutional Law, Insurance Law, and Products Liability Law.  I was also inducted into the McNeill Society – the society honors students who are in the top ten percent of their class.  After graduation, I returned to my hometown of Augusta and joined Fulcher Hagler, LLP.  I am a member of the Augusta Bar Association, the Augusta Family Law Bar, State Bar of Georgia, DRI, and GDLA.

Due to my background in the medical field, I possess significant insight into the workings of local health care facilities, including hospitals and physician practices.  As a former registered nurse, I am uniquely qualified to defend medical liability matters. Additionally, I advise clients and represent them in matters relevant to the Composite State Medical Board and Dental Board.  I have been involved in multiple cases wherein I provided advice about federal statutes, including HIPAA and EMTALA, securing summary judgment for several rural facilities where allegations were made involving such statutes.  I have been quite successful at securing summary judgments and dismissals for a number of her medical and dental clients. 

I expanded my practice to handling family law issues, including divorce, child custody, and child support issues.  I have personal experience in adoption and divorce/child custody and support issues, making me empathetic with my clients experiencing family law issues.  I also practice in the areas of general civil litigation and collections.  I specialize in finding individualized solutions for my clients.
