I represented a husband in a complex dissolution of his marriage of over twenty-five years. The husband was a successful businessman who, in a partnership with his brother, owned several multi-unit bu ... ildings and businesses. The wife had joined in the Husband’s brother and the brother’s wife as claimants in the case, alleging fraud and misappropriation of community assets. The husband hired me to finalize the dissolution through either a settlement or trial. However, even prior to trial, I had to file a number of motions to sell off several of the assets involved. All parties in the case hired their own forensic accountants, each of whom had to go through the financial records to determine whether the husband had misappropriated community assets to his brother and the latter’s wife, and to value the assets of the community. After several trial setting conferences in which the Judge refrained from setting a trial date, we were able to obtain a trial date which forced the wife to agree to mediate the case. We were finally able to settle the case in my client’s favor, after a full day of mediation with the presence of all four parties and their counsel and accountants. My client was very pleased by the work I did on the case and has since retained referred several other high-profile cases to me as well.

I represented a husband in a divorce proceeding involving the fraudulent conversion of the community’s only asset, a house with substantial value. The husband, who had had substantial kidney failure, ... was under constant medical care. Many years prior to the filing of the divorce, the parties had taken husband’s name off the title of their house to qualify for government-assisted health care. However, due to the parties high income, they were not able to obtain the health care and, thereafter, the wife had refused to place the house back in both of their names. The parties’ marriage continued for many years with periods of separation and reconciliation. All the while, the husband’s name remained excluded from the title of the house. Thereafter, the wife filed for divorce and refused to pay any money to husband for his share of the equity in the house. After several failed mediations, we were faced with the prospect of trial. Given the circumstances of the case, the parties opted to privately arbitrate the case with a retired judge. Prior to the arbitration, we had engaged in extensive discovery to obtain financial records from wife reflecting the fact that she was in charge of all the community’s finances and was the more financially savvy of the two who had regularly manipulated husband into doing what she wanted him to with respect to their finances. In the end, we were able to establish that wife breached her fiduciary duty to the husband and received a verdict in favor of husband. Wife had to pay husband an equalization payment for half the equity of the house.

I represented a wife whose husband had provided endodontic services for a national chain of dental clinics. I stepped into the case prior to a very important hearing to increase wife’s support. The pr ... ior attorney had failed to file the declaration of wife’s forensic accountant regarding husband’s true cash flow; hence going into the hearing we did not have any admissible evidence of husband’s true income. Through cross-examination of husband’s forensic accountant, I was able to show that the husband was making substantially more money that he was reporting to the court. I convinced the court to substantially increase wife’s support wherein she received child and spousal support close to $50,000 per month.

I represented a husband who was a successful engineer and licensed contractor and owned his own engineering firm, under which he designed and built both commercial and residential buildings. His recen ... t battle with prostate cancer, as well as a lawsuit brought against him, however, had resulted in a decline in his business. The wife was a self-employed beautician working inside a well-known beauty salon. I had to engage in extensive discovery within a few months by subpoenaing many financial records from several banking institutions to discover the extent of the parties’ community assets. In several mediation conferences held privately with the parties, we held extensive discussions regarding multiple financial accounts, stocks, bonds, businesses and real property. Further, prior to the mediation sessions, I had engaged in numerous conversations with a forensic accountant to discuss the valuation range for both the husband’s engineering business and the wife’s salon business. Although the forensic accountants did not attend the mediation sessions, both sides had relevant financial records with which they attempted to negotiate the actual worth of their respective businesses. We eventually successfully negotiated a settlement deal that was favorable to our client.

I represented a wife whose husband, an endodontist had a very successful practice with his brother in Beverly Hills. My client suspected that her husband was hiding income from her. During the case, t ... he husband refused to turn over the practice’s daily income sheets and informed us that these daily sheets did not exist. Without giving notice to the husband’s attorney, I convinced the Judge on the case, to grant my request to enter the practice and obtain information about husband’s income. With a team of computer forensic experts, we entered the practice to retrieve the hidden financial documents. On the first day we entered the practice, we were refused access to their offices. With the assistance of the Sheriff’s department, I was able shut down the practice and close it off until we were able to have the Judge force them to give us access. The next day we appeared in court and the Judge forced the husband to comply. For the next two days we were able to obtain daily financial sheet going back several years and proved that husband was hiding substantial amounts of money from our client.
