John Keir Esq

John Keir graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology before going on to law school at Emory University School of Law.

With a practice dedicated to navigating the evolving intersection of law and technology, John is a trusted advisor to clients seeking guidance in general corporate, privacy, cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) law. Drawing on extensive experience in both regulatory compliance and emerging technologies, John helps organizations anticipate legal risks, implement effective governance frameworks, and respond to complex data and security challenges.

John has worked with clients across industries to develop privacy programs aligned with global privacy regulations such as the GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, COPPA, FERPA, and emerging AI regulations and governance frameworks. John’s approach blends deep technical fluency with a practical understanding of business operations, allowing him to deliver risk-assessed legal strategies that are both defensible and operationally effective.

In addition to advising on compliance, John regularly counsels organizations on cybersecurity incident response, vendor risk management, AI deployment strategies, corporate controls, and cybersecurity & AI audit strategies ensuring that innovation is pursued responsibly and lawfully.

Prior to joining Vernis & Bowling, John spent nearly a decade at Intercontinental Exchange, Inc., the parent company of The New York Stock Exchange (“The NYSE”) John started in Governance Risk and Compliance before eventually going on to build and lead a legal team for Privacy, Cybersecurity, and AI compliance. During this time, John also worked on Mergers and Acquisitions along with other general corporate transactional and compliance work.

Passionate about education and thought leadership, John also contributes to the legal community through teaching as an adjunct professor of law at Emory Law, publishing, and speaking engagements on the future of technology law.
