Steven Paul Berne

Well I was seeking a lawyer to get rid of two warrants that I had no idea what the charges were for. I called multiple attorneys that day. Most didn't even want to investigate my case without me giving them the retainer fee. Mr.Berne went above and beyond my expectations. I met Steven several years ago as I needed some legal advice regarding a criminal matter involving one of my former employees. Though I am not a lawyer, my work required me regularly to interact, work with and supervise many, many lawyers. Over the years, I'd gotten pretty good at identifying a goo...d attorney. Steven "passed" my screening test. It also helped that everything I'd read about him was favorable. Years later I was charged with DUI. Having never been arrested for anything, my mind was made up that I would hire Steven. I spoke to friends for moral support and received referrals to two attorneys in the process who'd either helped them or helped people they know. In the interest of not appearing appreciative, I spoke with the attorneys my friends referred. The first attorney advised me to call the prosecutors office and "tell them you want to plead no contest". I was insulted! This person asked me to call the government myself. The second attorney did not appear to take my case seriously, but agreed to represent me if I wanted him to. Steven and I met at his office, talked about the case and I walked out with a peace of mind that I didn't have when I walked in. I've seen people fight DUI charges for a year or more. My case was resolved in three and a half months - Mr. Berne is also efficient, in a system renowned and perceived by many for being inefficient. In the end, I still have full driving privileges, served no jail time (outside of the time when I was arrested) and, best of all, my case will be dismissed (though I blew over the legal limit). I've known several people who've been down this frightening path and I know of no one who received an outcome nearly as favorable as mine. "I went to trial in 2007, and Steven was my attorney, I had no money for legal representation, but out of the kindness of his heart Steven decide to stand my mom and me. My mother was my co-defendent, and even thow he did not represent her during our trial he did work with her lawyer to get time off ...of her sentence. The infamous Jack T. Camp was our judge, now indicted. During the entire trial Steven faught to get my case thrown out of court because of lack of evidence. This corrupt judge would not allow the case to be thrown out of court, even thow almost every witness that took the stand on the governments behalf could not identify me. Steven and the other defense lawyers ate the governments people for lunch. At one point during the trial the corrupt judge Jack T Camp told Steven to tone it down while going after the governments main witness while she was on the witness stand. The entire court knew that she was lying, and Steven went after her like a lion stalking his prey. Even thow I was sentenced to 37 months and my mom received 108 months. Steven faught for us and was nothing less than a gentleman. I believe if it wasn't for this one sided corrupt Judge leaning toward the government in his unfair stance against minorites. The outcome at the trial may have been very different. Steven would always treat my mom and me with respect. His compassion and his kindness was a compliment to his professional demeanor inside of the court room and outside of the court room. One of the greatest things about Mr. Berne is that you can call him anytime day or night and he'll do what he can to try and help you. We need more lawyers that care not just about winning but we need more lawyers to care about the people. I would recommend Mr. Berne as a great lawyer.
