Maria Alejandra Sarmiento Aymar

Alejandra Sarmiento Aymar brings both global perspective and local litigation experience to her role as a personal injury attorney at Montlick. Licensed in Georgia and originally educated in Ecuador, she draws on her public service and private practice background to represent injured individuals, including many in Georgia’s Spanish-speaking community. She joined Montlick in 2022, drawn to the firm’s reputation for excellence, teamwork, and dedication to protecting clients’ rights. Alejandra represents clients in a wide range of personal injury matters, advocating strongly to protect their rights and achieve just resolutions. She is passionate about connecting with clients, understanding their needs and serving as a trusted voice while ensuring they have access to the resources necessary to heal and thrive after an injury.

Alejandra’s background spans public service roles – prosecution, judicial support, and public defense – before she transitioned into private practice and personal injury law. She gained early litigation and judicial experience through roles at the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, the Superior Court of Fulton County, and as a Law Clerk in private practice. As a legal intern at the DA’s Office, she represented the State of Georgia in hearings, argued motions, and collaborated with the FBI on active investigations. At Fulton County Superior Court, she supported judges by researching complex legal issues and drafting judicial orders. In private practice, she advised clients on immigration and contractual matters and prepared cases for trial. Her legal career began in Ecuador, where she served in the Public Defenders’ Office and as Administrative Manager of a notarial office, handling civil, criminal, and administrative law matters. These diverse experiences gave her a strong foundation in litigation and client advocacy, which she continues to apply at Montlick.

Alejandra’s results demonstrate the meaningful difference she makes for her clients. In one matter, when an insurer attempted to pressure her client into accepting an inadequate offer for an injury, Alejandra challenged the insurer’s position and successfully obtained full six-figure policy limits. In another, she represented a non-English-speaking client whose injuries required long-term care, working closely with the client’s family and providers to secure a settlement that ensured ongoing treatment and maximized her recovery. While every case depends on its unique facts, Alejandra’s consistent focus is protecting clients from unfair treatment and achieving resolutions that improve their lives in lasting ways.

Raised in Loja, Ecuador, Alejandra grew up in a family of attorneys whose example inspired her own career in advocacy. Their guidance instilled in her a deep respect for the legal profession and a desire to use the law as a tool for positive change. She earned her law degree from Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja in 2019 and her Master of Laws from Emory University School of Law in 2021. While at Emory, she distinguished herself as President of the LLM Society, where she represented and supported her peers while fostering a culture of collaboration and service. She was also recognized with the Best Oral Advocate Award, which affirmed her advocacy skills and reinforced the importance of clear, persuasive communication in achieving justice. In addition, she received the Pro Bono Publico Award, which highlighted both her excellence in advocacy and her commitment to service and community impact.

Integrity, compassion, and determination shine through in Alejandra’s community leadership. She has coordinated free medical and wellness programs for underserved populations and led major law conferences for thousands of students. These projects reflect her belief that everyone, regardless of background, deserves access to care, education and opportunities to improve their lives -the same spirit of service she brings to her clients today.

Alejandra’s Ecuadorian heritage infuses her with a deep-seated passion for assisting clients across multiple languages, be it her native Spanish, English or German. When not advocating on behalf of her clients, you’ll often find Alejandra actively engaged in community service projects, expressing her musical talents through playing the cello, or participating in cultural and community events in Atlanta – the city she and her husband have proudly called home for over a decade. Alejandra even once starred in La Dama Invencible, a nationally broadcast mini-series about the first women to vote in South America. Guided by her drive to empower others, Alejandra approaches every case with a belief that each client deserves the chance to recover with dignity and move forward with hope.
