J. Nikki Oates is a Georgia personal injury attorney who brings integrity, dedication, and hard work to the clients she serves. Licensed to practice law in Georgia since 2017, she is admitted to the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. At Montlick, Nikki focuses her practice on all types of personal injury matters, standing up for seriously injured individuals and their families when they need a skilled and trusted advocate most.
Before law school, Nikki spent six years at Montlick Injury Attorneys as a legal assistant, where she built a strong foundation in case preparation and client advocacy. After earning her law degree, she began her legal career in criminal law, gaining valuable courtroom experience before dedicating herself fully to personal injury law. She returned to Montlick as an attorney, bringing litigation experience and a meticulous approach to case preparation. Although many cases resolve prior to trial, Nikki prepares each one with the thoroughness for litigation, allowing her to advocate effectively in both negotiations and courtroom proceedings.
Nikki is known for handling difficult issues that can arise in injury cases. She regularly handles disputed liability claims and works to challenge findings that may unfairly assign fault to her clients. She approaches these matters with careful legal analysis and a thorough understanding of insurance coverage. She also regularly addresses subrogation lien issues, working to protect her clients’ financial interests as much as possible. Nikki’s work on behalf of her clients has earned her recognition from national legal organizations, including National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 and Lawyers of Distinction in Personal Injury.
Her commitment to this work is personal. When Nikki was 8 years old, her mother was tragically killed in a car crash, an experience that shaped her at a young age and ultimately called her to pursue a career in law. That calling has stayed with her, and it drives everything about the way she shows up for her clients and their families.
Nikki earned her Juris Doctor from Charlotte School of Law in 2016, graduating Cum Laude after completing an accelerated course load in just 2.5 years. During law school, she served as a Pro Bono Student Ambassador, completing more than 400 hours of pro bono service, all while raising her young family.
A lifelong Georgian, Nikki grew up in Rabun County, or as she likes to call it “God’s country,” and now lives in Buford with her family. She stays active in her community through local churches, schools, and organizations that support children’s health, mental health awareness, addiction recovery, and veterans.
Outside of work, Nikki treasures time with her daughters and stays active through snowboarding, hiking, and obstacle races like the Warrior Dash. A devoted fan of the Gators, Falcons, Braves, and Hawks, she is happiest with family near the water.

So impressed. Stop your search for your lawyer, because you found her.
Ms. Oates, is absolutely amazing. She communicated the whole time and got my case thrown out. Wow. So thankful for you Nikki! Thank you!!!
"I have known Ms. Oates for over ten years. I met her when she was a personal injury paralegal. She was known as a standout in the field at that time. Since then, Ms. Oates has attended law school and graduated with honors. During her time in law school, she helped me prepare for a very difficult high-profile case. Ms. Oates understands human behavior in a way that makes her a skilled advocate. Surprisingly, this is a very rare quality among most lawyers. In addition to her strong abilities and talents, Ms. Oates is a hard worker. This is why I asked her to work with me as soon as she took the bar. I am delighted to work with such a talent. Ms. Oates is one of the best personal injury lawyers that I know."
