Rishi Suthar

Rishi S. Suthar is of counsel in Barnes & Thornburg’s Atlanta office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Department and focuses his practice on complex patent litigation matters.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Suthar was an associate with Alston & Bird LLP. He has experience in handling virtually all facets of patent litigation from discovery through trial in matters before federal district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission. In addition, Mr. Suthar has experience defending clients in several appeals before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Suthar has also drafted covered business method and inter partes review petitions for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as amicus curiae briefs for the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

After earning his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park, Mr. Suthar worked as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, focusing on inventions related to photography, illumination, optics and support mechanisms. Mr. Suthar earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as a notes editor for theJournal of Intellectual Property Law.

He is admitted to practice in the state of Georgia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
