Attorney PAMELA I. ATKINS is the principal in the Atlanta law firm of Atkins & Associates, Attorneys-at-Law, LLC. For more than twenty years, Attorney Atkins and her staff have devoted their time to representing severely sick/injured individuals against insurance companies, employers, and the government on denied or terminated disability claims. Attorney Atkins is one of the state’s leading disability litigators, earning a stellar reputation as an experienced Social Security and ERISA practitioner.
Attorney Atkins has represented hundreds of disabled persons successfully in administrative appeals and in federal court litigation. Social Security claimants benefit from Atkins’ aggressive representation to maximize benefits, reopen old applications, and establish early onset dates and failed work attempts. Atkins represents claimants at all levels of appeal including civil litigation in federal court.
A large part of Atkins’ practice is the representation of clients in employee benefits/insurance disputes on individual and group long-term disability income policies, ERISA and non-ERISA claims, involving complex medical, vocational, and policy interpretation issues. Whether benefits are owed to an employee through a group employer welfare benefit plan or to a high profile athlete, entertainer, doctor, lawyer or business owner through a privately purchased policy, Attorney Atkins gives each person’s case special care and attention.
In the high stakes arena, where monthly benefits are substantial, initial claims need to be carefully prepared, policies need to be critically evaluated, and denials aggressively litigated with an attorney who can recognize and combat the tricks used to defeat legitimate claims. Atkins & Associates offers their services to people in the initial claims process to achieve maximum results.
Attorney Atkins is active in the legal community regarding disability issues. She is a frequent speaker at conferences for attorneys and organizations, and has been hired by other lawyers and the federal government for advice on disability regulations and design. Attorney Atkins is a past President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant's Representatives, and served on its Board of Directors for over ten years and is a current member of the Council of Past Presidents. Atkins is a member of the American Association of Justice (AAJ), the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (GTLA), the American Bar Association (ABA), and the Atlanta Bar Association.
Atkins is licensed to practice law before all the courts of Georgia and the federal district courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Georgia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Attorney Atkins was sworn into the U.S. Supreme Court in a special admissions ceremony hosted by JusticeStephen Gerald Breyer and Justice Ruth Joan Bader Ginsburg. Atkins is a member of the Federal Bar Association and the Appellate Practice section of the State Bar of Georgia which sponsors continuing legal education with partnerships between attorneys and judges. Atkins is also admitted to practice law in various other district courts and court of appeal around the country including the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Ninth Circuits.
Attorney Atkins has devoted a substantial amount of time and resources to charitable causes involving assisting persons affected by Brain Injuries, Bipolar Disorder, Cancer, Crohn’s & Colitis, Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Mental Retardation & Autism, Multiple Sclerosis, and severe Spinal Injuries. In 2009, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society named Attorney Atkins as one of 77 corporate leaders to its inaugural MS Leadership Class for her work for the welfare and well-being of others.
Attorney Atkins believes in leading life to one’s full potential and giving back to the community. She enjoys traveling and challenges. In 2010, she trekked to Mt. Everest, Nepal with a group of physicians. By far, her greatest joy is her son who is student at Stanford Univeristy in California. In June 2011, Atkins was profiled as one of Atlanta’s most Fabulous Over Forty citizens by Best Self Atlanta Magazine. Atkins knows people often benefit from a hand up rather a hand out. She regularly volunteers in the community.
