The appropriate procedure is as follows: listen to your PD and take the advice your PD gives you. Don't come on Avvo to second guess your lawyer.

To "handle" what? Injuries? Damage to your car? reimbursement? Rental car? Call the at fault party's insurance company and start a claim.
