Professional, Reliable, Effective

My family and I have used Mr. Murphy's law firm for several matters. He has provided excellent, professional service. He has assisted in an estate matter and real estate. I would recommend his office to your legal needs.

Had several Issues

One issue, not eager enough. I don't know if after so many years the passion is gone or not but it seemed like we never got any updates on our case and when we would nothing had changed from one instance to the next. During a court preceding he showed up late for court, which was embarrassing to sa...y the least. Once in court all the facts that were presented to him on our end were wrong. There were several times corrections had to be made during court so the judge had the facts straight, embarrassing again. The price for him is fair, but remember, you get what you pay for.

Has no interest in his clients once he is paid.

I retained Mr Murphy's services in March 2011 for a legal separation, to be followed by a divorce. I paid him the amount that he requested to begin the paperwork, and we agree that I would pay the rest upon the actual filing of the divorce. In February 2012, I returned to Mr Murphy's office to pay th...e remainder of my balance and request that my divorce be filed. That is when I began to run into problems. My phone calls began to be ignored, his paralegal would constantly tell me one thing, then change her story in front of him, & he talked around me anytime that we would meet. My divorce did not get filed until June 2012 despite me calling there on a weekly basis to follow up. It ended up being continued until August 2012, and & that is when I had my final hearing. During the final hearing, it was brought to light that my ex was behind thousands of dollars in child support (the amount having been set & court approved in the initial separation paperwork). He stated that he was not behind, so the judge gave him a set amount of time to prove/disprove whether he had paid/not paid the amount that we stated was unpaid. That date came & went, but Mr Murphy has (as of yet) not filed the final paperwork showing the exact amount of arrears, so the court is showing that my ex is actually ahead in the paying of his support. I have called his office multiple times, & spoken with his paralegal once, who (once again) spoke to me as if I was ignorant & knew nothing. I do intend on writing a letter to the Commission on Lawyer Conduct because I do not feel as if he has the best interests of his clients at heart. I felt like, once he received the full amount of his legal fees, he no longer has any interest in his clients. On top of the way he handled my case, he then presented me with a new bill at our hearing, when our original agreement stated that the amount I paid would cover everything. I have been paying that bill in small, monthly payments. I pray that no one else has the misfortune to be misled & treated by him & his staff the way that I have been.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
