Philip Land is a business lawyer in the Firm’s Greenville Office. He helps companies and their owners form business entities, purchase and sell assets and equity, enter into commercial transactions, and structure tax incentives to facilitate new investment and expansion in South Carolina.
Mr. Land was named to Greenville Business Magazine's 2016 Legal Elite of the Upstate for Government Affairs Law.
Prior to joining Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, Mr. Land was the Piedmont Regional Outreach Director for the Office of US Senator Lindsey Graham. In this role, Mr. Land served as the Senator’s liaison to various constituent groups - including public and private economic development entities, utility providers, municipalities, trade associations, and private businesses. Mr. Land also worked on economic development projects and assisted them in receiving funding from the US Economic Development Administration. Through this position, Mr. Land was able to develop relationships with and assist elected officials and business owners in solving problems related to federal agencies.
While in law school, Mr. Land served as a law clerk for the South Carolina Senate Judiciary Committee where he drafted and edited proposed legislation, wrote summaries of legislation, screened judicial candidate, and developed working relationships with Judiciary, Ethics, Banking and Insurance, and Medical Affairs committee staff.
EDUCATION
Mr. Land received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2011, where he was the Student Bar Association President, a Compleat Lawyer Award Bronze Medallion recipient, a student member of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court, and a recipient of the Claud Sapp Award. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Hampden-Sydney College in 2006, where he was an Alumni Leadership Scholar and a recipient of both the Anna Carrington Harrison Award and the Lewis and Nell Drew Award. Mr. Land was also the Student Body Treasurer.
While at Hampden-Sydney College, Mr. Land spent a summer in Prague working as an intern for the Fulbright Commission, advising Czech students on writing college application essays and passing English proficiency exams.
