Birth Injury 65%

My largest single area of focus is birth injury medical malpractice on behalf of the injured child. These cases include two primary types of harm, brain damage and permanent brachial plexus nerve damage. Occasionally I also handle cases involving wrongful death of a newborn. I accept birth injury cases throughout SC and beyond, and am honored that many of my cases come from other lawyers who recognize our expertise in this challenging field of practice. I review potential cases for free.

Medical Malpractice 18%

I handle medical malpractice cases arising from a variety of medical errors...ER, surgery, drugs, failure to timely diagnose and treat progressive disease and hospital infections, among others. We have many wonderful physicians, and I am extremely proud to count two of my children among them, but too many doctors cause harm by violating safety rules, taking shortcuts, or relying on guesses rather than medical science. If they are not held accountable, expect more negligence and more harm.

Personal Injury 12%

As a young attorney I handled all types of personal injury cases. Now I focus on the most serious cases involving catastrophic permanent injury or wrongful death. The injuries arise from a variety of situations such as horrific wrecks, dangerous products, sexual abuse, dangerous premises and workplace injuries. Cases we accept involve such severe harms as brain damage, spinal cord injury, paralysis, nerve damage, amputations, burns, organ damage and other serious injuries and wrongful 3death

Health Care 3%

Being known for my knowledge and experience at the intersection of law and medicine, I am occasionally sent cases that involve law and medicine, but do not exactly represent medical malpractice in a traditional sense. For example, I am currently working on a whistleblower suit against a health care company, involving insider allegations of massive false claims to Medicare. One reason our health care system is so expensive in this country is the greed of a few at the expense of the many.

Insurance 2%

Insurance contracts often lead to disputes in a variety of situations, such as health, disability, life, property, and liability. It was a proud moment for me in 2006 when I obtained a record verdict against a reprehensible health insurance company who falsely accused my client of lying on his application, canceling his policy when he needed it most. The SC Supreme Court upheld the majority of the punitive damages verdict, the largest such amount they had upheld, making national news.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
