It's rare that two opposing attorneys are able to work diplomatically with one another to effectuate an amicable resolution for their respective clients. When this dynamic presents itself, the clients are the ultimate beneficiaries, because their dispute is resolved far quicker than had their attorn...eys battled contentiously. Ms. Jacoby and I recently worked together on what, with most other attorneys in town, could have been a real fisticuffs; yet given her willingness to work civilly and present honestly, was instead an issue that was expeditiously resolved without the need for court intervention. Prospective clients often feel the only criteria for a "good" attorney is one who's a "fighter." While indeed that is a characteristic a true litigator should possess, it is but one of many a capable attorney should have in his or her toolbox. More often than not, as with anything else in life, it is the relationship a client's attorney has with opposing counsel that gets matters resolved with the least amount of cost and undue stress. I believe Ms. Jacoby is indeed such a lawyer, and have no doubt that had we progressed down a litigious path, would have been a worthy adversary. She was a genuine pleasure to work with, and more attorneys would benefit from taking a page from her "Civility, Honesty, & Common Decency" playbook. Any client(s) considering hiring her would benefit, as well.
