Joshua Tate Thompson

Josh has been practicing law since 2010. His practice focuses on civil litigation and encompasses a broad range of areas including medical malpractice, health care law, product liability, personal injury, insurance litigation, business litigation, governmental litigation, and appellate law. Josh also counsels healthcare providers on regulatory compliance and represents health care providers before professional licensing boards and administrative agencies.

Josh is dedicated, honest, and innovative, three qualities which assure he focuses on his clients' best interests in every matter he undertakes. For his dedication and ethics, Josh has been recognized for years by Martindell-Hubbell (AV rating), Super Lawyers: Rising Stars (Medical Malpractice Defense; Healthcare; Business Litigation), and Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch (Medical Malpractice Defense; Health Care Law; Commercial Litigation; Appellate Practice).

Josh is a magna cum laude graduate of both Wofford College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. At Wofford, he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the David Duncan Wallace History Award. While in law school, he served as the Associate Managing Editor of the South Carolina Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Wig and Robe. He is a graduate of the Spartanburg Regional Fellows Leadership Program (2012), the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association Trial Academy (2014), and Leadership Spartanburg (2016). Josh also is honored to have been recognized on Spartanburg’s inaugural Forty Under 40 list (2020).

Josh is a native of Union, South Carolina, having earned his Eagle Scout Award through Troop 42. He now lives in Spartanburg with his wife Beth and sons Caleb and Tate. Within the Spartanburg community, he serves First Presbyterian Church as a Deacon, United Way of the Piedmont as a Board Member, Boy Scouts of America Pack 2 as Pack Committee Chair, and the local youth athletic association as Co-Commissioner.
