OUTCOME: Search warrant quashed pursuant to California law regarding journalistic work product; police ordered to return/destroy all copies of work product, file affidavit detailing any dissemination of materials to other agencies.

Represented, as lead counsel, independent journalist who was targeted for arrest and his work product was seized while covering a demonstration.

OUTCOME: The Court granted the anti-SLAPP motion and dismissed the case.

Lead counsel in anti-SLAPP case representing occupant of a government-run long-term care facility. A year prior to the lawsuit, the client had alleged to government hospital and law enforcement per ... sonnel that a nursing assistant responsible for her care had sexually assaulted her. The nursing assistant was investigated and his employment terminated. Just before the statute of limitations ran out, the nursing assistant sued client for defamation. I filed an anti-SLAPP motion on client's behalf on the basis that her statements to law enforcement and hospital officials were absolutely privileged under California law.
