Richard Wayne Simmons II

Richard W. Simmons, II, an associate with McWhirter, Bellinger & Associates, P.A., joined the firm in 2007. He works primarily in the Sumter and Camden offices and practices in the areas of automobile accidents, workers’ compensation, premises liability and all forms of personal injury. He received his B.A. from Indiana University in 1988 and his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1991. Mr. Simmons was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1991 and the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, in 1992.

Following law school, Mr. Simmons spent approximately eight years as a staff counsel for the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, working primarily with healthcare-related licensing boards. Immediately prior to joining McWhirter, Bellinger & Associates, Mr. Simmons was a sole practitioner with an office located in Elgin, South Carolina.

Mr. Simmons is currently a member and is a past president of the Kershaw County Bar Association. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and is the secretary-treasurer of the Military Law Committee. Mr. Simmons is a captain in the United States Army Reserve, where he is a judge advocate assigned to the 12th Legal Support Organization, at Fort Jackson.
