Bonnie Jean Claxton

Bonnie Claxton earned her Juris Doctor in 2013 from William Mitchell College of Law after she graduated from the University of Georgia in 2007. During her time at law school, she was a Martin Luther King Jr. intern for Legal AId of North Carolina (May - August 2011, January - May 2013). In 2013, she was a clinic participant for the William Mitchell Indian Law Clinic and volunteered for the Minnesota Indian Estate Planning Clinic. Bonnie worked as Judicial Clerk for Vice-Chief Justice Montie Deer for the Muscogee (Creek) Supreme Court (2011) and served as teaching or research assistant for three professors during her time at William Mitchell College of Law.

Committed to the importance of community engagement, Bonnie strives to stay involved. She serves as board attorney and member of Full Spectrum Farms (2014) and as River Park Committee Member for the Cullowhee Revitalization Endeavor since 2013. She has previously worked as assistant and farm worker for Appalachian Homestead Farms (2009), communications manager for Buenos Aires-based Voluntario global (2008-2009), and as a board member for the Jackson County Habitat for Humanity (2002-2003).

Bonnie currently works with Coward, Hicks and Siler, P.A. and focuses her practice on tribal law and working with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Bonnie is an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation. She is proficient in Spanish.
