You would think the experience of buying a home would be a great experience, right? WRONG!! It was doomed from the beginning of hiring Jennifer Fulkerson's office!
We sold a house on February 5, 2015 (the buyers chose this lawyer to do the closing), in a pinch, we used the same lawyer to close on ...our new home that was purchased the same day. Two days before closing, we were called to reschedule the closing (now granted that would have been perfect if we had a place to move into for that day, which we didn't) because of the death of Bonnie's (assistant's) son. So we managed to get things moved up on the close of the new house and everything was good to go for an earlier closing date.
We get to the office about 30 mins ahead of the buyers of our home, so we go ahead and sign our paperwork for the new home.
The buyers come in and get their paperwork completed for the purchase of our old home.
Everything is going well at this point, the difference from the purchase of our new home to the sell of our old home was approximately $20k. Jennifer said that the check could not be cut until the deed was registered with the county. Okay. So she leaves to go register the deed with the county and says that she will call us when she is done, because she will have the check ready then. We waited about 2.5 hours before we heard anything. We get the call about 4:40pm. Of course banks close at 5pm. So we make a mad dash to her office to get the check and don't make it the banks in time.
Around the middle of February, we are looking in the mail everyday for our new deed to arrive. I call Jennifer's office and get ahold of Bonnie. She states that they have not received the deed and they don't know where it is. I call the Register of Deeds and they say that it was put in Jennifer's box on February 20th. I call Jennifer's office back and tell Bonnie that and she denies that they have received it and that Jennifer hasn't checked her box in a few weeks. I asked her to check the box and when she gets my deed, please call me.
After going back and forth with phone calls and never being able to actually speak to Jennifer (I requested her cell phone number and to be transferred to her voicemail, which Bonnie refused to do). I hired Jennifer, I should have access to her, not her hateful assistant, Bonnie! Anyway, after getting no where the whole month of March. Calling the office, to never get a call back. I finally called the office and spoke with Jennifer. Very rude and lying about the whole situation. She stated that the deed was never placed in her box and she doesn't have it. She stated that the Register of Deeds sends them out to the client once they are done. Well, she checked the box on the paperwork that she wanted the deed returned to her office when it was done. Everything I asked Jennifer, she had a snarky remark. Not professional at all! After the call with her, I called Phyllis at the Catawba Co. Register of Deeds and she states that the deed was placed in Jennifer's box on Feb. 20th. Phyllis was nice enough to make a certified copy of the deed and says she will send it to my address.
So basically I paid for the service of getting a deed with stamps, and I'm having to settle for a certified copy because Jennifer's office lost the original deed.
I certainly will never work with this lawyer again and I wouldn't recommend her to anyone!
