Theodore Nicholas Goanos

T. Nicholas Goanos is an Associate at Butler Pappas. Nicholas presently works in the Charlotte, North Carolina office, having relocated from a nationally-known insurance coverage and commercial litigation firm in Chicago, Illinois. While practicing in Chicago, Nicholas focused his practice in the areas of large, commercial first party property coverage and bad faith disputes, including those involving windstorm, fire, theft, and water damage. In several of these matters, he successfully obtained on behalf of several insurers claim and case dispositive rulings in State and Federal Courts—both within and outside Illinois—on matters involving fire damage, special flood hazard areas, and premises liability. At Butler Pappas, Nicholas continues this practice today.

Further, Nicholas has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in State and Federal Courts in numerous non-coverage matters, including those involving trade secrets, breaches of fiduciary duty, municipal law, and employment disputes. Nicholas is a member of the Bars of the States of North Carolina and Illinois and is a member of the Bars of the Eastern District of Michigan, Northern District of Illinois, and Central District of Illinois.

Nicholas received his Juris Doctorate, with honors, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2006. Prior to earning his Juris Doctorate, Nicholas earned his Bachelor's of Science, with honors, in 2001 from Presbyterian College, before interning for former Senator and Presidential candidate Ernest F. Hollings and earning an International Rotary Club Ambassadorial Scholarship. Through this Scholarship, Nicholas obtained his Master of Business Administration from the University of Indianapolis in Athens, Greece in 2003.
