Opposing party sought variances to build a triplex in an R1 zone. We successfully opposed the variance request at the hearing before the Zoning Administrator and again upon the other side's appeal to ... the Area Planning Commission. Councilmember for that district used a special Charter provision to bring the matter into the Council's jurisdiction, and the City Council overturned the ZA decision. We filed a Petition for Writ of Mandate. The Court agreed with us and issued a writ to vacate the City Council's decision.
