This was a drug distribution case. The police allegedly used a confidential informant (CI) as part of their investigation. Prior to trial, the defense demanded the prosecution turn over the police's ... CI file. The prosecution informed the court that the police intentionally destroyed their own at some point after criminal charges were been filed in the case, which was clearly in violation of the law and their own policing policies. Based on the defense motion and arguments, the case was dismissed prior to trial because the police had destroyed this file.
