The plaintiffs in the instant case are related to defendant by marriage. Defendant is married to plaintiff Shelley Edelman’s brother. Defendant is a professional comedian. In her comedy act, she ref ... erences plaintiffs. Plaintiffs have alleged that defendant made statements in her act that were defamatory and that painted plaintiffs in a false light. All other causes of action in the complaint originate from the allegedly defamatory statements. Plaintiffs fail to plead defamation and false light with sufficient particularity for defendant to be put on proper notice as to the allegedly actionable statements. Additionally, as plaintiffs served the out-of-state defendant by mail, the Affidavit of Diligent Inquiry does not meet the statutory requirements, and therefore process and service of process are both insufficient.
