Sarah Beth Withers founded Inner Banks Legal Services, a non-profit law firm organized to bridge the justice gap in Eastern North Carolina, where she primarily represents consumers filing chapter 7 and 13 cases. Sarah Beth began her bankruptcy career at the age of 20, when she was hired as a receptionist at The Sasser Law Firm. Realizing she had a passion for the legal profession, she obtained a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Duke University, which eventually led her to law school. Sarah Beth was a recipient of the Thomas M. Moore Eastern Bankruptcy Institute Scholarship and a Governor’s Merit Scholarship. While in law school, Sarah Beth served as a judicial extern to the Late Honorable Randy D. Doub, Chief Judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. After graduating from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2013, she served as a staff attorney for Richard M. Stearns, Chapter 13 Trustee. Sarah Beth went on to represent creditors in private practice, where she noted opportunities to bridge the justice gap, leading her to open the doors at Inner Banks Legal Services in 2017.
Sarah Beth is a co-founder of the North Carolina Consumer Bankruptcy Rights Coalition, which was organized to protect the integrity of the bankruptcy system in North Carolina and preserve the rights of consumer bankruptcy debtors through advocacy, education, and appearances in lawsuits related to issues of interest to consumer debtors. She has co-authored articles for The NACTT Academy for Consumer Bankruptcy Education and the Eastern Bankruptcy Institute.
Sarah Beth is an active member of the legal community, devoting her time to serving the underserved. Sarah Beth has provided bankruptcy education to the Beaufort County Bar Association, to the community through the Pitt County Counsel on Aging, and to domestic violence shelters in Eastern North Carolina. Sarah Beth has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in consumer bankruptcy by Super Lawyers (2019 - 2021), and she maintains an active pro bono practice, being inducted into the North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society (2019 – 2020).
