Ali John Hoomani

Following law school, John clerked for three different judges at the N.C. Court of Appeals and N.C. Supreme Court:  The Honorable Ralph A. Walker  and The Honorable Robert C. Hunter at the N.C. Court of Appeals, and The Honorable George S. Wainwright at the N.C. Supreme Court.

Following these clerkships, John practiced in the private sector with the law firm of Bailey & Dixon, L.L.P.  While in private practice, John practiced primarily in the areas of civil litigation and administrative law. In that capacity, he represented clients in an array of litigation, trial and appellate proceedings, and further worked with occupational licensing boards.

In 2001, John joined the North Carolina Department of Labor as Deputy General Counsel before becoming General Counsel in 2005, a position he held until his departure in January 2011. During his decade of experience advising and representing the Department of Labor, John gained extensive knowledge of labor and employment law, including occupational safety and health law, wage and hour law, and employment discrimination.

John works with clients in cases alleging discrimination, retaliation and other employment-related claims such as wrongful termination and breach of contract.  He also defends clients charged with OSHA violations and those accused of wage and hour laws.  John can also conduct investigations, advise clients on employment issues, revise personnel policies and handbooks, and review and revise contracts.

In addition, John is available to mediate cases throughout North Carolina.  Initially, John was trained in Employment Mediation, and mediated numerous personnel cases for N.C. State Government agencies.  Thereafter, John completed his Superior Court Mediation training and was certified by the N.C. Dispute Resolution Commission.
