You need an EAD to work legally. You can volunteer without pay as long as it is not for something for which one would normally be paid.

You cannot get a work visa for 2 years and must remain outside the US for exactly that period due to 212(e). However, you can get a tourist visa...

You must get an I-551 stamp in your passport allowing you to enter as a permanent resident. Make the Infopass appointment to do so. Good luck!
