I am native of Winston-Salem, NC. I grew up near there in Pfafftown and graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1987. I received a BS in Chemical Engineering from NC State University in 1991. I attended the University of North Carolina School of Law as a Chancellors Scholar and earned my JD with honors in 1994.
I concentrate my professional practice in the area of criminal law and handle all types of cases in this area, from traffic tickets to first degree murder. I have been lead counsel in over 50 jury trials and have handled over 100 cases in the appellate courts of North Carolina.
I am known for thorough preparation, for being quick on my feet during trial, and for a dogged dedication to representing the interests of my clients, even if their position is unpopular or causes them to collide with those in power.

He said we did not need witnesses and just show up. Did not have to take pictures. He was two hours late to court and the judge commented on his lack of effort. Lost case and walked out and would not explain what had happened. Did not offer any comments or directions.
I recall this case very well. I was disappointed that the results were not better for the client. Clients hire me for my judgment and expertise in determining what witnesses and exhibits would be helpful and would advance their case; at times clients who have no prior experience in the courts may not fully understand the rules of evidence and ethical restrictions on the evidence I may present, although I always try to explain those restrictions. I've tried hundreds of domestic violence cases and have an excellent reputation for advocacy in this area of the law. The suggestion that I was not in court in a timely manner or that I gave anything less than my best effort simply is false. I did not realize that the client had unanswered questions or desired further discussion about the case after it was concluded. I answered the client's questions as best I could and tried to provide referrals and guidance for the next step. As I said, I regret that the results in the case caused the client to become dissatisified. I can't win them all; I can only give my best effort, which I did in this case.
"Mr. Reece is extremely knowledgeable in the areas of Criminal Law and Appeals, and he has established a stellar reputation among other attorneys. I endorse him as an attorney, and would recommend him to anyone looking for a zealous criminal defense attorney in the Johnston County area."
"I have known Mike Reece since college and became re-acquainted with him when I returned to NC to practice law in 1998. Since that time, I have seen Mike grow into one of the most respected attorneys in the specialty of criminal defense. He has defended clients in cases ranging from misdemeanors to first-degree murder. His skills as a defense attorney have been apparent not only in trials, but also in his work on criminal appeals as well. Mike is never afraid of taking on the prosecution in defense of his clients. His work is top-notch and if I were in trouble I would want him on my side."
