The most unprofessional Attorney

John Mansfield charges money without any contract , does not provide monthly billing unless requested several times. His bills poorly are handwritten , by which cant been read. He did not complete the work he was hired to do and refuses to return the money. He encouraged me to file a civil lawsuit ag...ainst another attorney that he wrote , but had me sign. I had no idea the impact this would cause in my case. No attorney should ever do this. He wrote the complaint, took cash but put in my name. I have learned the hard way , that this is unacceptable and not professional. He took advantage of me, being a single female and I will only warn other females to be careful. Especially his paying clients.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2025.

Suspension issued in NC, 2025

updated on 07/29/2025

Suspension means an attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Reprimand issued in NC, 2017

updated on 05/10/2018

Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

John’s comment:

“It is important to me the Public know that the one & only instance of Bar discipline I have suffered in 26 yrs did not involve any bad faith or dishonesty on my part. It resulted from my not being personally aware that one of our closed client files contained a former client's uncashed money orders which sat in storage for several years because the client abandoned her case and did not respond to our attempts to reach her. Space does not permit here, but I am happy to openly discuss this matter.”
