Absolutely Unbelievable!!

My family used LegalShield and was referred to Attorney James A. Davis. After the initial conversation, we heard nothing from his office for almost six months. In April, I had to drive from Georgia to North Carolina just to get basic information because no one was responding. His paralegal sent my... sister an outdated office address—two years out of date—for critical estate documents. The correct office address is 250 W 1st St, Suite 212, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, where he has been located for about two years. We now have proof the office was still using outdated materials: the firm’s client intake form displays the old address, showing they were actively distributing obsolete stationery. My sister mailed the notarized forms certified. USPS falsely marked them “delivered in person,” signed by the carrier, on a Saturday when the building was closed. The postal inspector confirmed the carrier signed for the package himself. The forms were never delivered and are now missing. Because of this mistake, 14 heirs—including me—had to redo and re-notarize our documents, costing time, money, and additional travel. In July, my sister went directly to the courthouse and was approved as administrator in one hour—something the attorney had not accomplished in half a year. Only after that did Davis refund the $2,500 retainer he had already cashed in February. He refused to accept responsibility for the delay, the travel expenses, or even the $7 notary fee caused entirely by his staff’s error. I’m not a high-paid attorney—every dollar matters, including my $7. I would like him to do the right thing and reimburse me. If a law firm can’t provide a correct address, can’t receive its own mail, uses outdated stationery, doesn’t communicate for six months, and won’t take responsibility for the consequences, that’s a problem. And yes—this is a one-star review. Even his Avvo profile has the WRONG address!!

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
