Michael Preston Gardner

Mike is an associate on the firm's Labor and Employment team and assists his clients in preventing and resolving a wide range of issues that arise in the workplace. He has obtained defense verdicts in Virginia state courts on issues that range from discrimination claims to wage disputes. Mike has also successfully defended employers from charges filed with state and federal agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

After graduating from law school, Mike had the privilege of clerking for the Honorable Jackson L. Kiser in the Federal District Court for the Western District of Virginia. While clerking, Mike worked on numerous labor and employment cases and gained insight into how federal courts analyze claims that arise under the myriad of statutes that govern the relationships among employers, employees and unions.

Mike also has experience in the area of tort defense, predominantly concentrated in defending medical malpractice claims. Additionally, Mike has successfully defended clients at trial against claims that arose from motor vehicle accidents and premises liability slip and falls. He has experience navigating the complex procedural aspects of the judicial panel on multidistrict litigation and pretrial consolidation.
