From a young age, Nicole M. Thurston learned to be versatile, having lived abroad in Spain and Germany with her family while her father served as a U.S. Army Officer. Her mother, a native of Spain, passed on her native tongue, Spanish, to her daughter.
It was those bilingual skills that landed Ms. Thurston a job after law school representing a Spanish-speaking client in a divorce proceeding. She served as co-chair to opposing council, Mahoney & Richmond’s Reeves W. Mahoney and Andrew T. Richmond. Less than 36 months later, they would be working on the same team.
Ms. Thurston's areas of expertise include cases of divorce, support, custody and equitable distribution, same-sex adoption and agency and parent-placement adoption in general, plus pre- and post-marital contracts.
After graduating from Virginia Wesleyan University with Outstanding Senior Awards in both of her majors, Political Science and Spanish (she also recently finished her term on the VWU Alumni Council), Ms. Thurston earned her law degree from Regent University School of Law, where she co-founded Regent’s Hispanic Law Student Association.

She will represent herself, not you.
It still breaks my heart that I used Ms. Thurston as a lawyer. At first, she was thought to be a great pick for a lawyer but after a while, the truth was revealed. She never listened to me. She made comments that seemed like she was listening but she would always do what she thought was the right ...
Unfortunately, this is an anonymous client review and I have no way of specifically addressing this client's concerns. However, I will state that we never want any client to feel this way, or to feel that a positive outcome in their case isn't the No. 1 priority. I also strive to keep our clients informed every step of the way. I am sorry that this client had what he or she perceives as a negative experience. This is not typical.
"I've known Nicole for a decade and had no idea she was fluent in Spanish until a recent client needed an explanation of a settlement last week. English was his second language and Nicole switch right out of English into Spanish to ensure he was confortable with the settlement statement he was signing. She has always been keen and compassionate and has a thorough working knowledge of family law, especially as it relates to real estate transactions. I highly recommend her services."
