I met with Mr. Sherman for a confidential consultation; the attorney-client privilege is deemed fundamental to the proper functioning of our system of justice. I also inquired verbally if the consultation was held in confidence, after giving Mr. Sherman money, he assured me that my consultation was c...onfidential. A few months after my consultation, Mr. Sherman then decided that what I told him in the confidential consultation was no longer confidential and wrote a letter to my employer discussing the consultation. A matter my employer was already aware of but in any case, not an ethical practice for an attorney to disclose client information. Not only did Mr. Sherman write a letter to my employer, Mr. Sherman further called a firm our company deals with and also told them. This firm contacted my employer and told him that they were contacted by Mr. Sherman and what the subject of his conversation. Mr. Sherman forgot the most simple and primary rules for attorneys: RULE 1.6 A lawyer shall not reveal information protected by the attorney-client privilege under applicable law or other information gained in the professional relationship that the client has requested be held inviolate or the disclosure of which would be embarrassing or would be likely to be detrimental to the client unless the client consents after consultation, except for disclosures that are impliedly authorized in order to carry out the representation, and except as stated in paragraphs (b) and (c).

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
