Gary C. Byler was born and raised in Virginia Beach and graduated from Bayside High School. He went on to earn an undergraduate degree in Business / Accounting from Georgetown University and served as one of John Warner's first legislative aides in the United States Senate.
He earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982.
Following graduation, Gary C. Byler went to work for President Ronald Reagan in the White House. Instead of joining a law firm, he returned home and opened his own law practice in 1984.
