OUTCOME: We reduced the estate tax by several hundred thousand dollars.

We filed an estate tax return with the IRS that deducted a substantial portion of the decedent's estate based on the argument that the decedent had a domestic partner and the domestic partner owned an ... interest in several assets. The IRS did not challenge our estate tax return.
