Biography
J. Alden English focuses his practice in the areas of real estate transactions, finance, corporate formation and governance, and mergers and acquisitions.
Alden represents developers, lenders, landlords, tenants and other clients in a variety of transactions, including the sale, purchase, development, financing, leasing and management of both unimproved land and existing commercial and residential projects.
He also represents clients in connection with planned communities, residential subdivisions and mixed-use projects as well as conservation easements, real estate tax and easement disputes and other matters.
For business clients, Alden handles the formation of corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and other entities, governance issues for businesses and charitable organizations, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and contract negotiation. He also represents investors in private equity and venture capital funds.
The long-time Charlottesville resident is active in a number of community organizations, including Albemarle County Police Foundation, Public Education Fund of Charlottesville-Albemarle, and United Bank Advisory Board.
Alden was recognized in Virginia Super Lawyer as a “Rising Star” in 2008-10.
He earned both his bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Virginia.
