Stan is the partner in charge of civil litigation, civil appeals and employment law at Dunton, Simmons & Dunton, LLP. He brings to the firm more than 34 years of trial experience with two of the nation's preeminent litigation firms. Stan has been selected as a top business litigator by Virginia Business magazine’s Legal Elite list, comprising less than 3% of practicing attorneys in Virginia.
During a rich and diverse career he has represented businesses and individuals in commercial, real estate and labor disputes, and has spent the past two decades trying high value injury cases throughout the Eastern United States. Stan has managed and tried cases in more than half of all Virginia counties and has taken more than 175 jury cases to verdict. He also has appeared as trial or appellate counsel in more than three dozen courts outside the Commonwealth of Virginia, including courts in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri and the District of Columbia. As a plaintiff's injury attorney, he has obtained several verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 Million.
His appellate work includes cases in the Virginia Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He is a frequent author on civil procedure and trial practice topics and formerly was a law lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law.
Stan has represented businesses in cases involving all phases of development and construction, including owners, developers, contractors and architects. He also is experienced in a variety of real estate and riparian disputes. His non-injury labor practice focuses exclusively on management side representations.
