Steven Chabinsky is General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer for the cybersecurity technology firm CrowdStrike. He also serves as a Commissioner on the President's Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity, is the Cyber Columnist for Security magazine, and is on the adjunct faculty of George Washington University.
Previously, Mr. Chabinsky served for over 15 years with the FBI, where he helped shape many of America's most significant cyber and infrastructure protection laws and strategies. As Deputy of the FBI’s Cyber Division, he helped oversee FBI investigative strategies, intelligence analysis, budget and policy development and execution, and major outreach efforts to protect the nation from cyber-attack, cyber-espionage, online child exploitation, and Internet fraud. Prior to that, Mr. Chabinsky organized and led the FBI's Cyber Intelligence Section and served as its top cyber lawyer.
During his career, Mr. Chabinsky also served in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, where he had the privilege of being the lead cyber advisor to the Director of National Intelligence. He also helped formulate (and monitor on behalf of two Presidents) the U.S. Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative, which to this day remains at the core of U.S. national cyber strategy. Following September 11th, Mr. Chabinsky was called upon to serve in the White House, where he helped stand up the Department of Homeland Security after having previously drafted part of the Homeland Security Act of 2002.
Described as one of the "Most Influential People in Security," Mr. Chabinsky is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the second highest Intelligence Community decoration, coming only after the National Intelligence Medal of Valor. He has testified before the United States House and Senate on multiple occasions.
Mr. Chabinsky is a graduate of Duke University and Duke School of Law.
