With a career spanning nearly 30 years in law, education, and public service, Dana Martin Richardson is an attorney, educator, and community leader dedicated to using knowledge and experience to serve others. After retiring from state and local government in 2025, she continues to practice law as a solo practitioner, providing legal guidance in estate planning, special education, guardianship, Federal Indian law, and entertainment contracts.
Prior to retirement, Dana spent more than two decades in law and education, first as Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia. There, she represented multiple state agencies, negotiated significant legal matters, developed statewide trainings, and advised on issues involving mental health, disability services, and Native American law. This work also included drafting speeches for the Attorney General and collaborating with government and community partners across the also serves as a Special Education Administrator with Chesterfield County Public Schools where she was known for innovative teaching practices, advocacy for students, and strong partnerships with families and the community. She served on the county Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team. Concurrently, she served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Richmond School of Law, teaching Federal Indian Law with a focus on tribal sovereignty, land use, and civil rights.
Throughout a distinguished career, Dana has been recognized for excellence in public service, receiving the Virginia Government "Top Performer" Award, honoring the top one percent of state employees, as well as an Official Resolution from the Attorney General recognizing significant contributions to the Commonwealth. A sought-after presenter, Dana has delivered keynote addresses and professional presentations on Federal Indian law, special education law, aging, and inclusive teaching practices.
Outside of professional work, Dana is deeply committed to volunteer leadership and community engagement. A lifelong musician and educator, she has directed youth ensembles, served as a music director for theatrical productions, led church music and drama programs, and provided private vocal coaching for more than two has used this "hobby" to assist with entertainment contracts, casting representation, and legal advise to performance companies.
Known for empathy, collaborative leadership, and exceptional communication, Dana remains passionate about giving back to the community through legal service, education, advocacy, and the arts.
