Heather A. Cooper

Heather A. Cooper is a partner at Cooper Ginsberg Gray, PLLC, in Fairfax, Virginia, where she focuses her practice on divorce and family law. With nearly three decades of experience representing clients in the Northern Virginia and DC Metro area, she has built a reputation for skilled, principled advocacy in some of life's most challenging legal matters.

Ms. Cooper earned her Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from George Mason University. She began her legal career as an associate attorney before joining Cooper Ginsberg Gray, where she has been a partner for more than two decades.

Ms. Cooper has been listed in Best Lawyers in America and named a Super Lawyers honoree — distinctions reserved for the top attorneys in each state — including recognition among the Top 100 Virginia Super Lawyers and the Top 50 Women Virginia Super Lawyers. She has been repeatedly identified by Northern Virginia Magazine, Arlington Magazine, Virginia Business, and Washingtonian as one of the DC Metro area's top family law attorneys, and she holds a peer review rating from legal directories recognizing her legal ability and professional ethics as among the highest in her field.

A frequent contributor to continuing legal education, Ms. Cooper has lectured at Virginia CLE programs, the Virginia Association of Paralegal Administrators Biennial Conference, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association Advanced Paralegal Retreat, the National Business Institute, and the Fairfax Bar Association, among others. Her speaking topics have included dividing retirement assets upon divorce, QDROs and COAPs, child custody evaluations, and strategies for working with challenging clients.

Ms. Cooper has been actively involved in bar leadership and community service throughout her career. She has served on the Virginia State Bar's 5th District Committee, including as Chair, and as a faculty member for the Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Course. She served on the Secretary of Health and Human Resources Child Support Guideline Review Panel and held leadership roles with the Fairfax Law Foundation, including President of the Board of Directors. She has also served as Vice Chair of the Fairfax Bar Association's Law Related Education Committee.

Ms. Cooper is admitted to practice in Virginia and remains committed to giving back to her community through volunteer and civic engagement.
