Mr. West began working at his grandfather's law firm, Coates, Coates and Coates, at age sixteen. During law school, he wrote on legal topics related to regulating intercollegiate and Olympic athletics in the areas of antitrust laws, labor laws, tax laws, contracts, and economics in professional, amateur, and Olympic athletics. After graduating from law school, he worked at a large real estate law firm and a medium sized employee rights law firm in Tampa, Florida. In 2016, Ryan moved back to Berlin, Maryland and passed the Maryland Bar Exam to work with his uncles, Ray Coates Jr., and Randy Coates, before they retire as lawyers at Coates, Coates and Coates.
Ryan is a member of the American Bar Association; the Maryland State Bar Association; the Florida Bar Association; and the Worcester County Bar Association. While studying for the Maryland Bar Exam, Ryan worked for the Honorable Kathleen Beckstead, Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County. He is admitted to practice law in Maryland and Florida.
