Divorce is difficult, no matter what. Even if you have tried everything to save your marriage and you know divorce is the only solution, it is still heart-wrenching and fraught with emotion. I did not contact Coon & Cole for a divorce consultation, but for asset protection and business concerns. Aft...er reviewing my situation, the two attorneys I met with advised me to speak to Justin. That was not what I wanted to do, but I finally realized that I had to face the harsh reality of my situation. Justin was compassionate and listened patiently as my story unfolded. The fact that Justin also practiced business/construction law was important to me because he had knowledge to handle my “family” situation as well as understand my concerns over my business. There is a reason law school is difficult - many times in this process, straightforward logic is not involved. That’s where the difficulty comes in for me. Justin and Dave were patient and allayed my fears most of the time. But divorce and the court system are things to be feared; they are the unknown. No one goes into divorce knowing all about the process and consequences, but Justin and Dave listened and worked in my best interests and were always straightforward with me, even when they knew I didn’t want to hear it. Even when I thought they didn’t understand me, in the end I realized they heard and understood every word I said. Justin would say “just focus on the next right move.” That was hard for me; I am a planner and don’t like to step forward without knowing the path. There is no path with divorce, there really is no logic. It’s making the “next right move” and waiting on the other side. You can’t predict what will happen, but Justin and Dave were always ready. I thought my case was pretty straightforward, but nothing is cut and dry about legal proceedings, and that can be very daunting. My case was very complex and complicated, even though I did not think so at the beginning. The answer to legal questions is always “it depends.” Justin and Dave understood and worked with all those dependencies to my best advantage. Justin and Dave continually came up with strategies to move my case forward even when the other side kept stalling. They were knowledgeable and were always extremely responsive and respectful (even when I was at my most difficult.) Divorce is sad and difficult, and there really is no “happy ending,” but I think Justin and his team got me as close to that as possible. (I did consult with other attorneys, but I was not interested in the “we’ll rip his throat out” approach. You learn a lot through this process and I would highly recommend Justin and his team.

I contacted Justin because I agreed to a schedule with my kids in mediation to benefit my ex wife’s employment. My ex began letting her husband control decisions over my children and was ignoring my input. They both were saying negative things about me in front of my children and involving my son in... inappropriate conversations. When I confronted them to put a stop to it, my ex and her husband hired a lawyer and attempted to have me sign a consent order, to take primary custody out of spite, due to my ex having my children on more over nights than I did. Justin advised me on what to do and what not to do, but told me that he would follow any decisions that I wanted to make. He advised me on how to present myself through communication with my ex wife. Justin asked me for everything pertaining to my previous custody agreements and parenting plans. He found that some of my ex’s previous behavior with my children and certain things that she agreed to in the past would eliminate her from getting primary custody of my children. He then revised the consent order to be more in my favor and told my ex’s attorney to take it or leave it. He then advised my ex’s attorney that litigation on my ex’s part would not be a good investment for her, because of information that he received from some of her past behaviors with my children. Since then I haven’t received anymore threats of litigation, and my ex and her husband have corrected their behavior around my children. Throughout the process, Justin advised me exactly how MD family law worked, what to expect, sent caring emails without charging me when I was having anxieties due to the whole ordeal, and advised that he would work diligently to remedy the situation at as little cost to me as possible. I spoke to 3 different lawyers before I retained Justin. He was the receptive and knowledgeable attorney to handle my case.

Justin has been very supportive and on point with my legal issues. He's taken the time to understand my needs and requirements and put them into action. He's super responsive--normally hear from him that same day or even sooner when I reach out to him. He's down to earth and easy to talk to. I al...so think he's one of the smartest lawyers in practice. He's been extremely fair in all of this as well. I highly recommend him and the entire Coon and Cole law firm.
