By limiting my practice to family law and related appellate matters, I have the experience, dedication, and sensitivity to advise and advocate for clients no matter how overwhelming or complex their issues might seem. Recognized as a Maryland Super Lawyer—Rising Star for 2018 and 2019, I understand that every situation is different. My number one goal is to help clients achieve their best outcome from the beginning to end of their case. My clients tell me that they appreciate my attention to detail and thorough approach as I assist them with sensitive financial and family situations. I understand that, when clients work with me, they are often experiencing some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Every day I seek to lend my strength, knowledge, and professionalism to my clients as they navigate contact between their personal lives and the legal system. I am prepared to negotiate a comprehensive settlement agreement on your behalf, to bring your case to trial when appropriate, and to assist with everything in between.
I have been an active part of the legal community since I began my career as a Legal Assistant in 2010. I began practicing family law exclusively in 2015, before which I worked as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Glenn T. Harrell, Jr., then Senior Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland. While clerking for Judge Harrell, I participated in the drafting and editing of various civil and criminal opinions. My background as an appellate clerk provides me with an excellent knowledge base and the experience to pursue and defend appellate matters.
I graduated magna cum laude from Notre Dame Law School (J.D. 2014)., where I was an Articles Editor for the Notre Dame Law Review. While in law school my student note researching some of the unique issues facing non-traditional family units in the legal system was selected for publication. I was a Dean’s Academic Group Tutor for a section of Property Law and received the highest grades of my class in both Real Estate Transactions and Environmental Law. I was a Research Assistant for both a family law professor and an environmental law professor and worked at the Notre Dame Clinical Law Center, where I student-represented clients experiencing economic injustice issues. I graduated summa cum laude with Departmental Honors from Gordon College (B.A. 2010), having majored in English Language and Literature with a Pre-Law minor. During the summers of my college years, I worked as a Courtroom Clerk at the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, where I learned to love family law.
I am admitted to the Maryland State Bar, and am a member of both the Maryland State Bar Association and the Anne Arundel County Bar Association. I look forward to working with you on your case.

Polished, Thorough, and Personable
I retained Ms. Pfenson last year (after interviewing a few others) to fight a motion to modify custody. The opposing council was decidedly more “seasoned” and thought she could bully Ms. Pfenson with threats and such. All she did was get to see a real attorney at work. Ms. Pfenson proved that not ...

Very smooth Divorce
I hired Elizabeth to handle my divorce in 2016 after starting with another lawyer who lost all of the initial meeting notes, putting me months and months behind. Elizabeth picked up the ball and ran with it all the way to the end! She was very clear, realistic, helpful and supportive. Elizabeth was...
