McKeldin v. Bull on the Beach, Inc.
Dec 14, 2016OUTCOME: Settled
Mr. Steiner represented Ryan McKeldin, an individual that suffers from cystic fibrosis, who worked as a server/dishwasher/cook at Bull on the Beach, a pit beef restaurant. Within days after requesting ... to not work in the kitchen around smoke and fumes that affected his ability to breathe, Bull on the Beach abruptly fired Mr. McKeldin after 7 years of dedicated service. Mr. Steiner initially filed a claim on behalf of Mr. McKeldin with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (the "EEOC"), and the EEOC conducted an investigation into Mr, McKeldin's claims. The EEOC issued a determination that Bull on the Beach discriminated against Mr. McKeldin, but unfortunately that was not enough for Bull on the Beach to take action. It took a federal court case to finally get Bull on the Beach to the negotiating table, and the parties were able to reach a settlement.
