also known as Nate Charles, Nathan Michael Charles
I am the founder of Charles International Law, where I focus primarily on complex political asylum and high-risk immigration cases. I represent dissidents, reform activists, and individuals fleeing authoritarian regimes, civil war, and state-sponsored persecution — particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.
Before entering private practice, I served as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Counterintelligence & Export Control Section. I have handled national security prosecutions involving export controls, sanctions, and foreign intelligence matters. Earlier in my career, I served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C., prosecuting domestic violence and sexual assault cases and working closely with survivors navigating the criminal justice system.
I am also a former Navy SEAL officer and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. My career has centered on issues of national security, rule of law, and accountability — but at its core, my work has always involved representing individuals facing serious, life-altering circumstances.
I bring that experience to every case I handle.

"I have had the great privilege of working with Nathan Charles across multiple organizations. In every setting, he has distinguished himself as an exceptionally versatile, strategic, and principled attorney with unmatched empathy. Mr. Charles brings a rare combination of compassion, intelligence, national security experience, asylum and immigration expertise, and sound judgment under pressure. He has also been an outstanding leader, mentor, and legal advisor to me in both professional and substantive matters, particularly in regard to national security as well as operations in Afghanistan and Ukraine. For anyone seeking an attorney with integrity, courage, breadth of experience, and the ability to handle extraordinarily difficult matters with both precision and humanity, I recommend Nathan Charles without hesitation and at the highest level possible."
