Michael Dale Oliver

I concentrate my practice in transactional intellectualproperty matters and business deals involving technology based companies.  Much of this work is in acquisition, protection and enforcementof intellectual property rights in computer and internet technologyincluding domain names, trademark prosecution including opposition,cancellation and interference proceedings before the Trademark Trialand Appeal Board, copyright acquisition and enforcement, andadvertising law including Lanham Act cases (false and misleadingadvertising, dilution, tarnishment). 

I have extensiveexperience in licensing of computer software, and licensing andownership resolution of digital information on the internet.  I am a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) as well as an inactive Certified Public Accountant. 

I have taught as adjunct faculty at the University ofMaryland School of Law (in the fall of 2000, teaching a course withother lawyers on Introduction to Intellectual Property Practice), andin 2004 I co-taught Cyberspace Law Seminar at the Universityof Maryland School of Law.  I currently teach Law and Ethicsat the Graduate School of Management Engineering, University ofMaryland Baltimore Campus (UMBC).
 

I have given many talks on computer law, internet law and advertising law.  Some of the organizations that I have presented for include Lorman, Carroll COunty Chamber of Commerce, Glasser Legal Works (NY City), the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA), theIntellectual Property sub-committee of the Business Law Section of theMSBA, the Maryland Institute of Continuing Professional Education forLawyers, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and the Baltimore County BarAssociation.

In what little off time I have, I like to continue learning computer programing, and my environment is Apache, PHP and MySQL.  I also play classical guitar, and am one of the former presidents of The Baltimore ClassicalGuitar Society, Inc.  I also am a serious photographer, and now have somewhat extensive experience with many adobe creative suite applications.
