Income tax issues

I was extremely pleased with Mr Block and family. They took a stressful situation out of my hands and resolved it for me. Very happy with the outcome!

Whart did I pay for?

Personally, this was a delightful person whose family works alongside him at this firm. I needed help filing seven year old state taxes that had fallen through the cracks. He wanted $1,000 upfront, and then another $500 for his tax prep person to file my taxes - although he agreed to $350. What did I... get in return? I had to print out the two pages of taxes, and pay $555 in taxes owed to clear a $16,000 judgement in a Maryland county court (I've lived in Florida for six years). The judgement was automatically lifted, but will remain on my credit bureaus. Also, Maryland wants another $3,200 to settle the penalties. I called for help, and he told me just to pay it. That's it. No calling the Comptroller on my behalf, or any offer to help other than to pay them - and then try to challenge them. In all, save your money or go to someone who will provide value for your hard earned dollars. $1,350 paid is on my and was my mistake for something so simple - but I hoped and he led me to believe that he would help me clear all of this up after I paid the tax due, followed by 13% per year (which amounts to $500 and change). I am very disappointed with practice.

Mark, I am sorry to hear you were disappointed with the service we provided. I am pleased that you noticed our warm family run atmosphere. In regards to your review of our fees and services in connection with your case, I have to disagree with your assessment. Please allow me to explain. All clients are charged a Power of Attorney fee and in your case, you received a discounted POA fee because the scope of the work was not as extensive as many other cases. Please understand the POA fee is a flat fee we charge all clients and can be paid in installments. We do not require the whole fee paid upfront. I am sorry if there was some misunderstanding but we work with many of our clients on payment arrangements. The POA fee you paid includes going on record as your representative, researching your case, obtaining your transcripts, advising you of the proper procedures governed by law and the Internal Revenue Manual, phone calls, meetings with an attorney, meetings with an Enrolled Agent, all of this; with no time limit or additional fee. The second fee you are referring to is tax preparation. We are one of the only tax resolution firms that offer in house tax preparation and the returns are completed by Enrolled Agents and not just tax preparers. Our fees for tax preparation are highly competitive and as you mentioned, we even gave you a $150 discount. After emailing you on 7/27/2016, we indicated the beginning estimation for your tax preparation was actually less than we originally had thought it would be. During this email exchange we also advised that your completed tax returns would be uploaded to your private client portal for your review and once completed you had the option of printing them out yourself or we could print them out and overnight them to your home. On 8/5/16, by email, you expressed your desire to print out the returns and mail them in yourself. The balance we helped you clear up which was significant and instead, after we worked your case, you owed a smaller amount to the State of Maryland. As for the penalties and interest, you are mistaken as to the amount. Our office obtained a very different pay off amount. Also please understand when we advised you to pay Maryland this is standard procedure. We would like to help you clear up this matter and make sure you truly understand the facts of your case. If you will please call our office at 410-727-6006 one of the staff would be happy to speak to you regarding your case.
