Jim Yacov Daniel

Credentials, Experience, Abilities:  I studied law at Harvard Law School and have spent a quarter-century practicing law, first at prominent law firms in Washington, D.C. and New York City, and then as a government lawyer for the U.S. Congress and two agencies. I've also taught at Georgetown University Law Center.

My specialties in immigration and immigration-related family law are complemented by extensive experience in regulatory matters and in foreign and international law. I have practiced law overseas and am well-equipped to consider the special customs and requirements of your own cultural or religious community.

I am licensed to practice law in Maryland and New York.

Meaningful Consultations:  My consultations are thorough, because I won't give you legal advice on the fly. On the contrary, I need to understand all the relevant facts, and your personal priorities and goals -- and then do whatever research is necessary -- before presenting my best recommendations to you.

Effective Planning, Communication, and Advocacy:  After our initial consultation, I'll develop a plan to advance your goals. As we move forward, I'll set out your options and decision points at every stage. Throughout, I'll inform you promptly of significant developments, safeguard your privacy, and act as a zealous and conscientious advocate for your interests.

Improving Your Odds:  In many cases, outcomes depend partly on judges, government officials, or other third parties. I won't make false promises or guarantees. Instead, I'll inform you of your risks and possibilities, and work hard to give you the best chances of success, on your own terms.

Costs:  Some cases allow a fixed fee, but most are subject to hourly billing against a retainer fee paid in advance. The costs of legal representation are often determined by the actions of courts, agencies and adverse parties, and by your own changing circumstances over time. I'll work to limit your costs and avoid surprises by keeping you informed and helping you decide what to fight for.
