Phyllis thank you for putting your trust in my firm, in and out of court. Your girls have been able to watch you grow strong and overcome disappointment. That example will remain with them long after you have left this earth. Great job!!!

Outstanding Divorce/Child Custody Work

So I found myself in need of a divorce attorney. I never hired an attorney and I was overwhelmed and, I admit, scared at the thought of the entire divorce process. I called you up and we had a frank and open discussion. You calmed me down and gave me a better understanding of what to expect and wh...at was going to happen. My divorce was very, very lengthy. Throughout Circuit Court, Maryland Court of Special Appeals, and all incidents in between, you were there by my side in the trenches fighting the battles. No matter what the situation, I could call or text you for a calm and reasonable conversation. Thank you for that. I appreciate you re-focusing me on the goal of what was best for my son and I. While I know you had other cases, you always made time to talk/respond to me. In the end, we finally finished the custody and property with a favorable decision. I'm still telling my family and friends about my wonderful experience with you. Great work and I highly recommend you as a divorce attorney. Again I say Thank You!

Darrin we had a major roller coaster ride but we made it successfully to the end. The ups and downs were definitely worth the final result. Thank you for listening and doing the hard work to get us there.

Great Father's Advocate

My son was a few months old. For no good reason, his mother, who I was no longer in a relationship with, did not want me to be alone with him. And she did not want to even consider developing a parenting plan. My hands were tied. We reached an impasse and, go figure, she sued me. In court documents, ...she was seeking full legal and physical custody. She lied, painting everything in sight as unfit. Me! My family! My house! I interviewed attorneys and told them I wanted to seek joint custody, physical and legal. One thing nearly all of them had in common was a message of despair. "It's an uphill battle" one said. "You should rethink your expectations; he's too young and still breastfeeding," another one told me. "I like to be on the plaintiffs side," another explained. I knew I had rights as a father and my love for my son and desire to be a hands on father drove me to seek custody. But I never truly felt empowered until I hired attorney Tomlin. By the time she began representing me, I had not seen my son for more than two months (including his first Thanksgiving and Christmas). The attorney who had been representing me had billed upwards of seven thousand dollars without ever stepping foot in a courtroom on my behalf and that was about all he had done successfully. But even before my first hearing, Day One on my case, Attorney Tomlin worked with opposing counsel to get a schedule for me to start seeing my son several times on a weekly basis. My case remained a contentious one throughout and Attorney Tomlin never made me any promises because no good attorney does. But Attorney Tomlin was anything but in a state of despair. "Maternal preference is dead," she argued to a judge at a hearing. "He planted the seed and she bared the fruit." At the final decisive hearing, she performed what you might call a legal "shutout." Attorney Tomlin practically muzzled opposing counsel, a seasoned attorney who had been practicing law when Attorney Tomlin was still in high school. Attorney Tomlin also exposed the witnesses, including my son's mother, for the lies and exaggerations they were telling. I never had to put on my case. Attorney Tomlin won on defense, dismantling the plaintiff's case, piece by piece. And in the end, I left the courthouse that day with what others said couldn't happen: joint physical and legal custody. My son was just weeks shy of his first birthday. Today I bathe my son, feed him, teach him, put him to bed, take him to doctor's appointments, love him, kiss him, squeeze him. I do all of the things his mom can do, because there's nothing that prevents me from doing so.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2024.

Commission Reprimand issued in MD, 2024

updated on 08/26/2024

Indefinite Suspension issued in MD, 2011

updated on 01/11/2017

Suspended indefinitely means an attorney lost his or her license to practice law for an unknown period of time. The attorney will need to re-apply for admission to the Bar if he or she intends to resume practice in the future.

Valeria’s comment:

“My suspension was unrelated to the practice of law and precipitated by another attorney NOT a client. I exercised poor judgment on one occasion and for that I was sanctioned. At NO point did I ever jeopardize my legal clients. As a result I have taken full responsibility for my actions. In October 2011 I agreed to a thirty day suspension and used that time to reflect. I now take two, 30-day admin periods each year to regroup and recharge to better serve my clients. I resumed in November 2011.”
