When you file your I-485 you can also file for work authorization which is called EAD.

There is no requirement that you work in L-1 status for the GC as long as your current role is still manager.

You can look this information up on the USCIS website for the Form I-39. If you choose to do this on your own, your wife's I-539 MUST reach USCIS...
