A Matter of Days

After going back and forth with the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue for a couple of years trying to correct an erroneous tax bill, I was hit with a $40,000 levy against one of my bank accounts. At the recommendation of an attorney I had used on another matter, I contacted Charles Ray. He met with me... promptly and "got right on the case". In a matter of days he accomplished what I could not in two years; had the levy released and the account settled. I would highly recommend Attorney Ray if you have any tax matters that need to be resolved.

Miracle Worker

Mr. Ray is a miracle worker! I couldn't be more satisfied with the service he provided helping to reduce my tax debt. He is a trustworthy, experienced, and friendly attorney that I would recommend to anyone with tax problems. Calling Mr. Ray was the best phone call I ever made. From the moment I ...made contact with Mr. Ray, he put my IRS fears at rest and true to his word, my IRS debt is now paid in full. Forever grateful!

Persistent Professional

I contacted Mr. Ray via referral I n the early part of the year to resolve a tax matter in which the IRS revoked my payment plan without cause and began garnishing my wages for double the original plan. Mr. Ray contacted them and we thought the issue had had been resolved only to find no plan was in ...place after numerous contact and information sharing sessions. We got a second agreement to reinstate a payment and did not have one after more than four months. Mr. Ray persisted and after five months I now have a reasonable plan. He was always professional and offered various avenues for solution. Definitely could not have done it without him, his staff and their expertise. Fantastic job!

Knows the DC Tax Law system

I waited a year to write my review, because like anything it is about the long game not the short game when it comes to dealing with taxes. I didn't want to praise someone for temporarily getting DC Tax off my back only for them to come back later and harass me again. If your dealing with DC taxe...s Charles Ray is your attorney and let me tell you why. Several years ago, I was an Army Reservist "deployed" to Washington DC to reinforce a key position requiring additional personnel not otherwise available. When you "deploy", you deploy from a Home of Record. In this case it was from Ohio. Your still responsible for paying for state taxes to the state your deployed from. So it would be obviously burdensome to be taxed by additional states if I were deployed to location outside of Ohio, which was the case. For two years, my residence of choice was in fact a Washington, DC address since base housing was not available. That doesn't sound like a problem... Well several years after the fact, I get mail from DC saying that I did not pay my taxes and I needed to pay X taxes unless I respond back. I responded back with all the info showing that I should not be taxed per their own laws. I got more letters. I sent more response and even ensuring delivery of documents via mail and email. Forget calling them.... no one has that kind of time. Anyways it turned into harassment at some point. I had properly responded via several methods with zero response back, just received escalating snail mail threats that conflicted with each other's time frame for response. Not once was there acknowledgement that I even sent a response to DC. It was fine that they questioned whether I should have paid tax or not, but not fine that they were unwilling to review the facts being presented. Being military with a security clearance to maintain, this essentially becomes blackmail to us. If we don't pay, they can impact our security clearance and livelihoods because paying our obligations is an indication of trustworthiness. DC clearly had no intent of treating me fairly, so I was forced to hire an attorney at my expense because I had to do something that would not allow them to ignore my responses. The tax with penalties was staggeringly high in a very short time period. So I go online looking for an attorney. I got some calls from national networks but no one really knew anything about DC until I called Charles Ray. He was the only attorney I spoke to that knew anything specifically about how DC taxes worked. I hired him. He had it handled in a couple of days because he knew exactly who he needed to talk to. He has professional working relationships established in DC versus other lawyers I spoke to who never even worked with the DC government. Most importantly, he never made it my problem to figure it all out. So a year later, I still have not heard a word from the DC government so it is safe to say that Charles Ray hit this one out of the park. The harassment instantly ended with no more threats to harm me financially for income that was never their right to tax.
