Babak Akhlaghi

Babak Akhlaghi is the Founding Director of NovoTech Patent Firm, where he advises startups, technology companies, and innovators on developing strategic, investor-ready patent portfolios that support fundraising, business growth, and long-term competitive advantage. His practice focuses on patent portfolio strategy, patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analyses, and intellectual property counseling for emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, blockchain, quantum computing, semiconductors, software systems, and robotics.

Babak Akhlaghi has been recognized by IAM Strategy 300, one of the most respected recognitions in the intellectual property profession. IAM Strategy 300 identifies top practitioners who are taking IP portfolio management to the next level and leading the way in developing and implementing strategies that maximize the value of intellectual property portfolios. He has also been recognized as a WIPR Leader and selected to Super Lawyers for eight consecutive years.

In addition to his legal practice, Babak serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland, where he teaches Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship, and is a co-author of the annual Patent Applications Handbook published by Westlaw. Prior to founding NovoTech Patent Firm, he gained valuable in-house and large-firm experience, including work with Panasonic in Japan and practice at Fish & Richardson and McDermott Will & Emery.

Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, Babak combines deep technical knowledge with a business-focused approach to help clients transform innovative technologies into valuable and defensible intellectual property assets.
